Description

This 50-centime note was issued by the Limoges Chamber of Commerce in 1918. It is a type of local currency issued in France during a period of shortage of national fiduciary currency, especially during and immediately after the First World War.

The obverse of the note features the inscription "CHAMBRE DE COMMERCE DE LIMOGES" in capital letters. Below it, the face value "50 CENTIMES" is indicated. Three signatures also appear: "Le Président" (The President), "Par délégation le Vice-Président" (By delegation the Vice-President), and "Le Trésorier" (The Treasurer), attesting to the issuing authority and the financial responsibility of the Chamber of Commerce.

The reverse of the note contains an important clause regarding its validity: "..... devra être présenté au remboursement avant le 1er janvier 1923." (..... must be presented for reimbursement before January 1, 1923.). This statement indicates that the note had a limited validity period, after which it would no longer be exchangeable for legal tender. The printer's name, "IMP. P. DUMONT A LIMOGES," is also mentioned, identifying the establishment responsible for printing the note.

The note incorporates a watermark depicting bees. The bee is a symbol often associated with industry, labor, and prosperity, which may have been a way for the Limoges Chamber of Commerce to project an image of economic stability and confidence during an uncertain period.

The note was printed by Imprimerie Pierre Dumont, located in Limoges, France. This information is crucial for the identification and authentication of the note.
