This 50-centime emergency banknote, issued on 11 August 1920 by the Chamber of Commerce of Châteauroux and Indre, was put into circulation to compensate for the shortage of metal currency after the First World War. Designed by Albert Laprade and printed by Imprimerie Mellotée in Châteauroux, it bears a watermark of bees and the signatures of the Treasurer and the President, General Bertrand. Valid until 10 May 1925, it was redeemable at public cash offices in Indre (Châteauroux, Issoudun, La Châtre and Le Blanc).
