This 50-cent banknote was issued by the Châteauroux Chamber of Commerce in 1919. It is a local issue of necessity, intended to alleviate the lack of currencyMonetary division and/or unit of account used in a country. in circulation after the First World War.
On the obverse, the face value "50" is printed in large numerals. The inscription "CHAMBRE DE COMMERCE DE CHATEAUROUX" is found, as well as the date of issue, "1919" and the date of validity "26 DECEMBRE". A serial number, "43963", is also present. The face value "50 Centimes" is written out in full, accompanied by the mentions "Le Trésorier" (The Treasurer) and "Le Président" (The President), indicating the persons responsible for the issue. The mention "IMP. BADEL CHATEAUROUX" identifies the local printer.
The reverse of the note specifies "50 Centimes" and indicates that "LA CONTRE-VALEUR EST DEPOSEE AU TRESOR" (THE COUNTER-VALUE IS DEPOSITED WITH THE TREASURY). It also states that "LE REMBOURSEMENT AURA LIEU AUX CAISSES PUBLIQUES DE L'INDRE" (REIMBURSEMENT WILL TAKE PLACE AT THE PUBLIC FUNDS OF INDRE). The validity date of the note is recalled: "CE BILLET EST VALABLE JUSQU'AU 26 DECEMBRE 1924" (THIS NOTE IS VALID UNTIL DECEMBER 26, 1924). The face value "0f.50" is also inscribed. The watermark represents bees.
