Description

This 50 centime banknote was issued by the Calais Chamber of Commerce in 1916, belonging to Series B. The front of the banknote is characterized by a distinctive orange frame. At the top is the coat of arms of the city of Calais. On each side, busts of winged men serve as columns, topped with cups containing flames. A garland of flowers connects the two sides at the top of the banknote.

The inscriptions on the front include "CHAMBRE DE COMMERCE DE CALAIS" at the top, followed by "DÉLIBÉRATION DU 14 JANVIER 1916". The face value "50 CENTIMES" is indicated, as well as the mentions "Le Trésorier" (The Treasurer) and "Le Président" (The President). The serial number "Série B 24607" is visible, and the mention "LITH. ROY & VALADE. AMIENS." indicates the printer.

The back of the banknote features an ornamental orange frame. The main inscription reads "Remboursement en billets de la Banque de France un an après la signature de la Paix." (Reimbursement in banknotes of the Bank of France one year after the signing of the Peace.) An additional clause stipulates that "Dans un délai de cinq ans après cette date, tous les billets encore en circulation devront être présentés au remboursement." (Within five years after this date, all banknotes still in circulation must be presented for reimbursement.) The value "50" is also repeated on this side.

The banknote incorporates a watermark representing bees. The printer of this banknote is Imprimerie Roy & Valade, located in Amiens, France.
