This 50 centime banknote was issued in France in 1915 by the Amiens Chamber of Commerce. It is a local issue, guaranteed by a deposit of an equal sum at the Bank of France.
On the front, the words "CHAMBRE DE COMMERCE D'AMIENS" (Amiens Chamber of Commerce) are at the top, followed by the nominal value "0.50" repeated on either side of the words "CINQUANTE CENTIMES" (Fifty Centimes). Below, we read "CENTIMES". The signatures of the Treasurer and the 1st Vice-President are affixed, as well as the serial number "N° 398 580". The printer's mention "IMP, PROGRES DE LA SOMME" appears at the bottom.
The back of the banknote again displays the nominal value "0.50" on each side of the words "CINQUANTE CENTIMES". It bears the inscription "Émission garantie par un dépôt d'égale somme à la Banque de France" (Issue guaranteed by a deposit of an equal sum at the Bank of France). The banknotes are exchangeable on sight for sums of at least Five Francs at the Banque DUVETTE in Amiens. An important clause stipulates that this banknote must, under penalty of prescription, be presented for reimbursement before November 5, 1920. It is specified that this banknote is valid within the jurisdiction of the Amiens Chamber of Commerce, including the cities of Amiens, Doullens and Montdidier.
The banknote does not have a watermark. It was printed by the Imprimerie du Progrès de la Somme, located in Amiens.
