The 50-centime note issued in 1915 by the Amiens Chamber of Commerce represents a form of emergency currency. This type of note was produced in a particular economic context, often in times of war or crisis, when official coins and banknotes were scarce or in insufficient circulation.
On the front, the note bears the inscription "CHAMBRE DE COMMERCE D'AMIENS" in capital letters. The face value, "0.50", is repeated on either side of the inscription "CINQUANTE CENTIMES". The signatures of the Treasurer and the 1st Vice-President are also present, along with the serial number "N° 1 489 033". The inscription "IMP, PROGRES DE LA SOMME" indicates the printer responsible for the production of the note.
The back of the note again displays the face value "0.50" and the inscription "CINQUANTE CENTIMES". A guarantee of issue is stipulated, ensuring that the note is covered by a deposit of equal sum at the Banque de France. The notes were exchangeable at sight for sums of at least Five Francs at the Banque DUVETTE in Amiens. A redemption deadline, set at November 5, 1920, is clearly indicated, after which the note would no longer be exchangeable. The area of validity of the note is specified as the Amiens Chamber of Commerce, including the cities of Amiens, Doullens and Montdidier.
The note has no watermark. It was printed by the Imprimerie du progrès de la Somme, in Amiens. The print run of this note is 127,743 copies.
