The 50 centime banknote from the Banque d'Émission de Lille, dated August 1915, belongs to the second series issued by this institution. The front of the banknote, written in Latin, features the following inscriptions: "BANQUE D’ÉMISSION DE LILLE AOÛT 1915" at the top of the banknote. The nominal value "50 CENTIMES" is indicated in the center.
Also found are the mentions "L'ADMINISTRATEUR DÉLÉGUÉ LE PRÉSIDENT" with spaces for signatures. The mention "SOCIÉTÉ ANONYME AU CAPITAL DE CENT - MILLE FRANCS" also appears on the front. Two illustrative frames adorn the bottom of the banknote: on the left, "L'INDUSTRIE FÉCONDE LE TRAVAIL", and on the right, "LA SCIENCE ÉCLAIRE L'INDUSTRIE". The printer's name, "DELEMAR & DUBAR IMP. LILLE", is also mentioned.
The back of the banknote, also in Latin, reproduces Article 139 of the Penal Code. This text warns against counterfeiting and falsifying banknotes authorized by law. It stipulates that the perpetrators of such acts, as well as those who use or introduce these counterfeit banknotes on French territory, will be liable to forced labor for life.
This banknote testifies to the economic and legal context of the time, highlighting the seriousness of financial crimes related to fiat currency.
