Description

This 50 centime banknote was issued by the Banque d'Émission de Lille in January 1915. It is a banknote from Series V 6361.

On the obverse, the inscription "BANQUE D’ÉMISSION DE LILLE" is clearly visible. The face value, "50 CENTIMES", is indicated in numbers and letters. The signatures of the Managing Director and the President are also present. The inscription "SOCIÉTÉ ANONYME AU CAPITAL DE CENT - MILLE FRANCS" is printed, specifying the structure and capital of the issuing bank.

Two frames adorn the lower part of the obverse. The one on the left illustrates "L'INDUSTRIE FÉCONDE LE TRAVAIL", while the one on the right represents "LA SCIENCE ÉCLAIRE L'INDUSTRIE". The printer, DELEMAR & DUBAR IMP. LILLE, is also mentioned.

The reverse of the banknote features a legal text. This is Article 139 of the Penal Code, which details the penalties for counterfeiting or falsifying banknotes authorized by law, as well as for their use or introduction into French territory. The penalty mentioned is forced labor for life.

All inscriptions are written in Latin, in accordance with the customs of the time for official and financial documents.
