Description

This 50 centime banknote was issued by the Montpellier Chamber of Commerce in 1917, belonging to Series 84. It is an emergency issue, put into circulation in a particular economic context related to the First World War.

The obverse of the banknote features the words "CHAMBRE DE COMMERCE DE MONTPELLIER" in capital letters, indicating the issuing institution. The signatures of the Treasurer and the President of the Chamber of Commerce are affixed, authenticating the banknote. The face value, "50 CENTIMES", is clearly indicated, accompanied by the series number "Série 84" and a specific banknote number, here "06.291". A reference is made to the deliberation of October 11, 1917, a legal act authorizing this issue. The name of the printer, "IMP. RICHARD, PARIS", is mentioned, as well as the name of the designer, "P. ARNAVIELHE, INV."

The reverse of the banknote simply displays the face value "0.50 CENTIMES" in numerals and letters. The printer, "Imprimerie Richard, Paris, France", is also mentioned on the reverse.

The banknote is printed in black on light-colored paper. The graphics are simple and functional, prioritizing the clarity of information. Paul Arnavielhe is credited as being the designer of this banknote.
