Description

This 50 centime note, issued by the Paris Chamber of Commerce in 1920, represents a form of emergency money used in the economic context of the time. The note is identified by the series J.18.

The obverse of the note features an ornamental frame of geometric patterns. A medallion occupies the left side, illustrating a bust of Minerva, recognizable by her helmet, facing right and shown in three-quarter profile. The words "CHAMBRE DE COMMERCE DE PARIS" and "CINQUANTE CENTIMES" are printed, accompanied by the signatures of the treasurer and the president. The serial number, such as "059.226", also appears on this side.

The reverse of the note features a frame of geometric patterns. The central inscription stipulates that the banknotes in circulation could be exchanged for Banque de France banknotes until July 1, 1922. The face value "0.50" is indicated, and a mention recalls the deliberation of the Paris Chamber of Commerce dated March 10, 1920.

This type of note, issued by a chamber of commerce, testifies to the monetary adaptations implemented to facilitate local economic exchanges. The absence of a watermark is a technical characteristic to note.
