This 50 centime note, issued by the Paris Chamber of Commerce in 1920, belongs to the F.8 series. It represents a form of emergency money issued in a particular economic context.
The obverse of the note features an ornamental frame of geometric patterns. A medallion occupies the left side, depicting a bust of Minerva, recognizable by her helmet, facing right and shown in three-quarter view. The inscription "CHAMBRE DE COMMERCE DE PARIS" is written in capital letters, above the indication of the face value "CINQUANTE CENTIMES" (FIFTY CENTIMES). The signatures of the treasurer and the president also appear on this side, as well as the series identifier "F.9" and the issue number "079.815".
The reverse of the note repeats the geometric pattern frame. The main inscription states that "LES BILLETS EN CIRCULATION SERONT ECHANGEABLES CONTRE DES BILLETS DE LA BANQUE DE FRANCE JUSQU'AU 1 JUILLET 1922" (NOTES IN CIRCULATION WILL BE EXCHANGEABLE FOR BANK OF FRANCE NOTES UNTIL JULY 1, 1922). The face value "0.50" is printed, followed by the mention "DELIBERATION DE LA CHAMBRE DE COMMERCE DE PARIS EN DATE DU 10 MARS 1920", indicating the date of the decision authorizing the issuance of these notes.
It should be noted that this note does not have a watermark. The presence of mentions relating to limited exchangeability in time testifies to the economic and monetary circumstances of the time, where the Chambers of Commerce were led to issue their own currency to facilitate local transactions.
