This 50 centime banknote was issued by the Chamber of Commerce of Évreux, France, on January 11, 1917.
On the obverse, the inscription "REPUBLIQUE FRANCAISE DEPARTEMENT DE L'EURE" appears at the top of the note. Below, it reads "CHAMBRE DE COMMERCE D'EVREUX" followed by the districts concerned: "d'EVREUX, des ANDELYS, BERNAY et LOUVIERS". The date of the deliberation, "January 11, 1917", is also mentioned. The face value, "CINQUANTE CENTIMES", is clearly indicated, accompanied by the signatures of the President and Treasurer. A serial number, such as "N° 210.846", is printed. The name of the printer, "NANCY - PARIS BERGER_LEVRAULT", appears at the bottom of the note.
The reverse of the note bears the inscription "GUERRE EUROPÉENNE DE 1914 - 1917", attesting to the historical context of its issue. A note specifies that the final reimbursement had to take place before January 11, 1922. The name of the printer, "Berger-Levrault, Nancy, France", is also repeated on the reverse.
This banknote represents a testimony to French local economic history during the First World War, issued by a chamber of commerce to facilitate transactions during times of crisis.
