This 50 centime banknote was issued by the Évreux Chamber of Commerce, in France, on June 7, 1920. It is a local issue, intended to facilitate exchanges during a period of small change shortage.
The obverse of the banknote bears several inscriptions. It reads "RÉPUBLIQUE FRANÇAISE DÉPARTEMENT DE L'EURE" in the upper part, indicating the geographical entity concerned. The name of the issuing body, "CHAMBRE DE COMMERCE D'EVREUX", is also mentioned, followed by the districts for which the banknote is valid: "d'EVREUX, des ANDELYS, BERNAY et LOUVIERS". The mention "Délibération du 7 Juin 1920" refers to the decision authorizing the issue of this banknote. The face value, "CINQUANTE CENTIMES", is clearly indicated, accompanied by the signatures of the President and Treasurer of the Chamber of Commerce. A serial number, here "N° 620.670", allows each banknote to be identified individually. The name of the printer, "NANCY - PARIS BERGER-LEVRAULT", appears at the bottom of the obverse.
The reverse of the banknote bears the inscription "GUERRE EUROPÉENNE DE 1914 - 1917", reflecting the context of the time. A sentence specifies the conditions of reimbursement: "remboursement définitif avant le 11 janvier 1922." The name of the printer, "Berger-Levrault, Nancy, France", is repeated at the bottom of the reverse.
The banknote was printed by Berger-Levrault, a company based in Nancy, France.
