The 50-cent banknote issued by the Bourges Chamber of Commerce in 1920, series A, is a testament to French monetary history. This banknote features distinct graphic characteristics on its obverse and reverse.
On the obverse, the inscription "CHAMBRE DE COMMERCE DE BOURGES" dominates, followed by the face value "CINQUANTE CENTIMES". The signatures of the Treasurer and the President of the Chamber of Commerce are also present. The mention "MCMXV" also appears on this side of the banknote. J. Tardy is credited for the design (DEL.) and lithography, with the mention "Vve TARDY - PIGELET ET FILS - BOURGES". H. Richy is identified as the engraver (Sc.).
The reverse of the banknote contains a warning regarding the redemption deadline: "It must, under penalty of prescription, be presented for redemption before October 31, 1920". A serial number, "A 487696", is printed on this side. The printing house Tardy - Pigelet & fils, located in Bourges, France, is responsible for printing the banknote.
This banknote, designed by J. Tardy and engraved by H. Richy, offers an overview of local monetary practices of the time and the legal requirements related to its temporal validity.
