This 50 centime note was issued by the Chamber of Commerce of Bergerac, France, on June 15, 1917. It is a type of emergency currency, issued locally during a period of official currency shortage during the First World War.
The obverse of the note features the inscription "CHAMBRE DE COMMERCE DE BERGERAC" at the top, followed by the serial number "45263". The face value "50 CENTIMES" is printed in the center. The signatures of the Treasurer and the President, L. Pigeon and Ronteix respectively, are located on either side of the date "June 15, 1917". The name of the printer, "Ronteix Périgeux", is indicated at the bottom.
The reverse of the note contains the text of the circular from the Minister of Commerce of December 9, 1916, relating to the issue of this type of local currency. The watermark depicts bees, a symbolic motif often associated with work and industry.
The note is printed by Ronteix, in France. The script used is Latin, the administrative language of the time.
