The 50 centime note issued by the Bergerac Chamber of Commerce, dated October 5, 1914, belongs to Series C and bears the number 22997. The front of the note, written in Latin, displays the name of the issuing institution: "Chambre de Commerce de Bergerac." The face value, "50 centimes," is indicated several times, both in numerals (0.50) and in words. The signatures of the President and Treasurer of the Chamber of Commerce also appear on this side. The name of the designer, L. Pigeon, is mentioned.
The back of the note, also in Latin, contains information regarding the guarantee and validity of the note. It specifies that this note is guaranteed by a deposit of an equivalent sum at the Banque de France. It is exchangeable at the counter of the Bergerac branch. A statute of limitations stipulates that the note must be presented for reimbursement within five years from its date of issue. The printing house Pierre Dumont of Limoges is mentioned as the printer.
The note does not have a watermark. The main inscriptions are printed in black characters on a light-colored background. The typography used is sober and functional, prioritizing readability. All legal notices and information relating to the issue are clearly indicated. The presence of the printer's name makes it possible to identify the origin of the manufacture of the note. The note reflects the economic and monetary context of France at the beginning of the 20th century, marked by the issuance of emergency money by local institutions.
