Description

This 50 centime note was issued by the Belfort Chamber of Commerce in France, following a deliberation on November 4, 1918. It is an emergency issue, designed to facilitate trade in a specific economic context.

The front of the note features the following inscriptions in Latin characters: "CHAMBRE DE COMMERCE DE BELFORT" at the top, followed by "DELIBERATION DU 4 NOVEMBRE 1918". The face value "50" is clearly indicated, along with the mention "CENTIMES". The serial number, here "SERIE 14 numéro 03.726", is also present. The printer's mention "IMP. B.ARNAUD LYON _ PARIS" appears at the bottom of the note.

The back of the note, also in Latin characters, bears the mention "CINQUANTE CENTIMES" at the top. The functions "Le Trésorier" and "Le Président" are mentioned, probably followed by their respective signatures. An important indication specifies "CIRCULATION DANS TOUTE L'ALSACE-LORRAINE", highlighting the geographical area where the note was accepted. The redemption deadline is set for "November 5, 1923".

The printer of this note was B. Arnaud, a company based in Villeurbanne, France, which operated from 1898 to 1990. The existence of this type of note demonstrates the monetary adaptations put in place to meet local economic needs at a specific time.
