This 50 centime banknote was issued by the Amiens Chamber of Commerce in 1915. It is an emergency issue, intended to compensate for the lack of cash during the First World War.
The obverse of the banknote features the inscription "CHAMBRE DE COMMERCE D'AMIENS" in capital letters. The face value, "0.50", is indicated twice, framing the text "CINQUANTE CENTIMES". The signatures of the Treasurer and the 1st Vice-President also appear on this side. A serial number, such as "N° 250,365", is printed. The mention "IMP, PROGRES DE LA SOMME" indicates the printer.
The reverse of the banknote repeats the face value "0.50" twice, framing the inscription "CINQUANTE CENTIMES". It is specified that the issue is guaranteed by a deposit of equal sum at the Banque de France. The banknotes are exchangeable on sight for sums of at least Five Francs at the Banque DUVETTE in Amiens. A repayment deadline, set at November 5, 1920, is stipulated, under penalty of prescription. It is also indicated that this banknote is valid within the jurisdiction of the Amiens Chamber of Commerce, including the cities of Amiens, Doullens and Montdidier.
The banknote does not have a watermark. It was printed by the Imprimerie du Progrès de la Somme, located in Amiens, France. The script used on the banknote is Latin.
