Description

This note is a French assignat with a face value of five livres, issued on 10 Brumaire of year II (October 31, 1793) of the French Republican calendar. It is a form of fiat currency issued during the French Revolution.

The obverse of the note features several distinctive elements. In the center, the value of the assignat, "cinq Livres", is highlighted. The date of issue is clearly indicated. The national motto of revolutionary France, "Unité Indivisibilité de la République, Liberté Egalité Faternité ou la Mort", is inscribed. The text also includes legal warnings, namely that "La Loi Punit de Mort le Contrefacteur" (The Law Punishes the Counterfeiter with Death) and that "La Nation Récompense le Dénonciateur" (The Nation Rewards the Denouncer), emphasizing the severe measures taken against counterfeiting and encouraging denunciation.

The reverse of the note is blank. The watermark present represents the value "5" and the monogram "RF" (République Française) in a circle.

This note is part of a series of 28744, with 100 different signatories. The signature present on this assignat is that of Feuillade. The dimensions of the note are 94 × 59 mm.

A blind stamp is affixed to the lower left of the assignat. This stamp, with a diameter of 26 mm, represents the Genius of the Constitution seated, leaning on the statue of Artemis, symbol of Nature, on the right, and on the Tables of the Law on the left, where one can read "DROIT DE L'HOM". This stamp was engraved by GATTEAUX.
