Description

This is a five-livre assignat issued in France on 10 Brumaire An II (October 31, 1793). This note, part of series 22355, bears the signature of Coipel. The front of the note features a textual composition structured around the face value of the assignat, highlighted in the center. The date of issue is clearly indicated, and the national motto of the time is inscribed: "Unité Indivisibilité de la République, Liberté Egalité Faternité ou la Mort" (Unity Indivisibility of the Republic, Liberty Equality Fraternity or Death).

The legal notices aimed at deterring counterfeiting can also be read: "La Loi Punit de Mort le Contrefacteur, La Nation Récompense le Dénonciateur" (The Law Punishes the Counterfeiter with Death, the Nation Rewards the Denouncer). The back of this note is blank. The integrated watermark represents the value "5" and a monogram "RF" (République Française - French Republic) included in a circle.

The assignat measures 94 mm in length and 59 mm in width. A blind stamp, with a diameter of 26 mm, is affixed to the bottom left of the note. This stamp represents the Genius of the Constitution seated, leaning on the right against a statue of Artemis, symbol of Nature, and on the left against the Tables of the Law, on which the inscription "DROIT DE L'HOM" (Rights of Man) can be distinguished. This blind stamp was engraved by GATTEAUX. It should be noted that the total number of series issued for this type of assignat amounts to 28744, with 100 different signatories.
