The obverse of the coin features the Semeuse (the Sower), an allegorical figure emblematic of France, in front of a rising sun on the horizon. The inscription "REPUBLIQUE FRANÇAISE" is inscribed in an arc above the Semeuse. The signature "O. Roty" indicates the name of the engraver, Louis-Oscar Roty.
The reverse of the coin features an assembly of plant symbols: an olive branch, an oak branch and an ear of wheat, arranged under the face value "5 FRANCS" and the year of issue "2001". The national motto "LIBERTE ? EGALITE ? FRATERNITE" encircles these plant elements.
The coin is composed of copper and nickel. Its weight is 10 grams and its diameter is 29 millimeters. The edge of the coin is reeded.
This particular edition of the 5 Francs Semeuse coin was struck with a Brilliant Uncirculated (BU) strike quality. The mintage of this version is limited to 125,000 copies.
