The 5 Francs Semeuse coin, minted in France in 1990, is a subsidiary coin with a nominal value of five francs. It is composed of a copper and nickel alloy, giving it a silver color.
This coin weighs 10 grams and has a diameter of 29 millimeters. Its edge is reeded, which is a standard feature of French coins of that era.
The obverse of the coin features the Semeuse motif, an allegorical figure created by Louis-Oscar Roty. The Semeuse is an emblematic representation of the French Republic. She is depicted sowing seeds, with the rising sun visible on the horizon in the background. The inscription "REPUBLIQUE FRANÇAISE" is inscribed in an arc above the Semeuse, and the name "O. Roty" also appears, indicating the name of the engraver.
The reverse of the coin features a set of plant symbols, including an olive branch, an oak branch, and an ear of wheat. These elements are arranged below the face value of "5 FRANCS" and the year of issue, "1990". The French national motto, "LIBERTE ? EGALITE ? FRATERNITE", is inscribed around this plant motif.
Louis-Oscar Roty is also the engraver of the reverse of this coin.
The mintage of this coin in 1990 amounted to 15,000,011 copies.
