The 5 Francs Semeuse coin, struck in Brilliant Uncirculated (BU) quality in 1987, is a French coin with a face value of 5 francs. It is composed of copper and nickel, with a weight of 10 grams and a diameter of 29 millimeters. Its mintage is 19,993,967 copies.
The obverse of the coin features the Semeuse, an allegorical figure created by Louis-Oscar Roty, symbolizing the French Republic. The Semeuse is depicted in the act of sowing, with the sun rising on the horizon in the background. The legend "REPUBLIQUE FRANÇAISE" is inscribed in an arc above the figure, and the signature "O. Roty" appears below the representation of the Semeuse.
The reverse of the coin features a motif composed of plant symbols, including an olive branch, an oak branch, and an ear of wheat. These elements are arranged under the face value "5 FRANCS" and surrounded by the republican motto "LIBERTE ? EGALITE ? FRATERNITE". The year of issue, "1987", is indicated in the lower part of the reverse. The engraver of this side of the coin is also Louis-Oscar Roty.
The edge of the coin is reeded.
