The 5 Francs Semeuse coin, minted in 1978, is a numismatic representation of the French Republic. It has a face value of 5 francs and is composed of copper and nickel. The coin weighs 10 grams and has a diameter of 29 millimeters. Its mintage is 30,046,011 copies.
The obverse of the coin features the Semeuse (Sower), a classic allegory of Republican France. This figure is placed in front of a rising sun on the horizon. The inscription "REPUBLIQUE FRANÇAISE" is inscribed in capital letters above the Semeuse. The signature "O. Roty" indicates the artist who designed the motif.
The reverse of the coin presents an arrangement of plant symbols: an olive branch, an oak branch, and an ear of wheat. These elements are arranged below the face value "5 FRANCS". The national motto "LIBERTE ? EGALITE ? FRATERNITE" encircles this vegetal ensemble. The year of issue, 1978, is inscribed at the bottom of the coin. The signature of the engraver, Louis-Oscar Roty, is also present.
The edge of the coin is reeded. The Semeuse motif and other design elements are executed with particular attention to detail, reflecting the symbols of the French nation.
