The 5 Francs Semeuse coin, minted in 1977, is a French coin with a face value of 5 francs. It is made of copper and nickel, with a weight of 10 grams and a diameter of 29 millimeters. The edge of the coin is reeded.
The obverse of the coin depicts the Semeuse (Sower), an allegorical symbol of the French Republic. This figure is positioned in front of a rising sun on the horizon. The inscription "REPUBLIQUE FRANÇAISE" is inscribed in an arc above the Semeuse. The name of the engraver, O. Roty, is also present on this side.
The reverse of the coin features a set of plant motifs, including an olive branch, an oak branch and an ear of wheat, arranged under the face value "5 FRANCS" and the year of issue "1977". The national motto "LIBERTE ? EGALITE ? FRATERNITE" encircles these plant elements.
Louis-Oscar Roty is the engraver of both the obverse and reverse of this coin. The total mintage of this coin in 1977 amounted to 485,011 copies.
