The 5 Francs Sower coin, minted in silver in 1968, is a French coin with a nominal value of 5 francs. The obverse of the coin depicts the Sower (Semeuse), an allegorical figure created by Louis-Oscar Roty, symbolizing the French Republic. The Sower motif is surrounded by the inscription "REPUBLIQUE FRANÇAISE" and the signature "O. Roty".
The reverse of the coin features an assortment of plant symbols, including an olive branch, an oak branch, and an ear of wheat. These elements are arranged below the face value of "5 FRANCS" and the year of issue, "1968". The whole is framed by the republican motto "LIBERTE ? EGALITE ? FRATERNITE". This motif is also the work of the engraver Louis-Oscar Roty.
The coin weighs 12 grams and has a diameter of 29 millimeters. The edge of the coin is engraved with the raised inscription "LIBERTE EGALITE FRATERNITE", echoing the republican motto present on the reverse. The mintage of this coin in 1968 was 357,000 copies.
The fineness of this coin is silver. The 1968 5 Francs Sower coin is a notable example of French numismatics, combining strong republican symbols with careful artistic design.
