The 5 Francs Pasteur banknote, dated July 7, 1966, series P.22, is a banknote issued by the Banque de France. Its dimensions are 140 millimeters in length and 75 millimeters in width.
The front of the banknote features a portrait of Louis Pasteur on the left. On the right, a representation of the Pasteur Institute is visible. Plant motifs, notably bunches of grapes, also adorn this side. The inscription "5 BANQUE DE FRANCE 5" can be read, as well as the mention "CINQ FRANCS". The engraver of this part of the banknote is Gilbert Poilliot, while the drawing is the work of Pierrette Lambert.
On the back, another portrait of Louis Pasteur is found, this time positioned on the right. On the left, a statue of the shepherd Jupille is represented. The background consists of test tubes, a microscope and various scientific instruments. Rabbits, sheep and roosters are present in the corners of the banknote. The inscription "5 BANQUE DE FRANCE 5" is also visible, as well as an excerpt from article 139 of the Penal Code, recalling the penalties for counterfeiting or falsifying banknotes. Henri Renaud is the engraver of this side, and Pierrette Lambert is also the designer.
The watermark of this banknote represents the head of Louis Pasteur in profile.
