The 5 franc banknote, issued on May 5, 1967, is a Product Type: French Banknote. It bears the series reference S.51.
On the front of the banknote, there is a portrait of Louis Pasteur positioned on the left. The Pasteur Institute is depicted on the right. The background is adorned with plant motifs, notably bunches of grapes. The inscriptions in Latin characters indicate the face value "5" as well as the mention "BANQUE DE FRANCE" and "CINQ FRANCS". The engraver responsible for this side is Gilbert Poilliot, while the drawing is the work of Pierrette Lambert. The dimensions of the banknote are 140 mm in length and 75 mm in width.
The back of the banknote also features a portrait of Louis Pasteur, this time positioned on the right. The statue of the shepherd Jupille appears on the left. The background illustrates test tubes, a microscope, and various scientific instruments. Representations of rabbits, sheep, and roosters are visible in the corners. The inscription in Latin characters repeats the face value "5" and the mention "BANQUE DE FRANCE". There is also article 139 of the Penal Code relating to sanctions for counterfeiting and using counterfeit banknotes. Henri Renaud is the engraver of this side, and Pierrette Lambert is the designer.
The banknote's watermark represents Pasteur's head in profile.
