The 5 Francs Pasteur banknote, dated May 5, 1967, and belonging to the H.51 series, is a testament to French monetary history. Its dimensions are 140 mm in length and 75 mm in width.
The front of the banknote features a portrait of Louis Pasteur on the left. On the right, a representation of the Pasteur Institute is visible. The background is adorned with vegetal motifs, including bunches of grapes. The inscriptions include the face value "5" as well as the mention "BANQUE DE FRANCE" and "CINQ FRANCS". The engraver of this part of the banknote is Gilbert Poilliot, while the design is the work of Pierrette Lambert.
On the back, there is another portrait of Louis Pasteur, this time on the right. A statue of the shepherd Jupille is featured on the left. The background depicts test tubes, a microscope, and various scientific instruments. Rabbits, sheep, and roosters are arranged in the corners. The inscriptions again include the face value "5" and the mention "BANQUE DE FRANCE". An excerpt from Article 139 of the Penal Code is also present, reminding of the penalties for counterfeiting banknotes. Henri Renaud is the engraver of the back, while the design is also by Pierrette Lambert.
The banknote's watermark represents the head of Louis Pasteur in profile.
