The inscriptions are in Latin, with the mention "BANQUE DE FRANCE" and the value "CINQ FRANCS". Gilbert Poilliot is credited as the engraver, while Pierrette Lambert is the designer.
The reverse of the banknote also features a bust of Louis Pasteur, this time placed on the right. A statue of the shepherd Jupille is depicted on the left. The background illustrates test tubes, a microscope, and various scientific instruments. Rabbits, sheep, and roosters are arranged in the corners. The inscriptions are also in Latin and include the mention "BANQUE DE FRANCE". A law text, Article 139 of the Penal Code, is reproduced in full, recalling the penal sanctions incurred in the event of counterfeiting or falsification of banknotes. Henri Renaud is identified as the engraver of the reverse, and Pierrette Lambert as the designer.
