The 5 Francs Pasteur banknote, dated November 4, 1966, and bearing the series V.44, is a testimony to French monetary history. Its dimensions are 140 mm in length and 75 mm in width.
The front of the banknote features a portrait of Louis Pasteur on the left. On the right, a representation of the Pasteur Institute is visible. Plant motifs, including bunches of grapes, complete the ornamentation. The inscriptions include the nominal value "5" and the mention "BANQUE DE FRANCE", repeated on both sides, as well as the value "CINQ FRANCS" in letters. The engraver responsible for this face is Gilbert Poilliot, and the drawing is the work of Pierrette Lambert.
On the back, there is another portrait of Louis Pasteur, this time placed on the right. On the left, a statue of the shepherd Jupille is represented. The background is composed of test tubes, a microscope and other scientific instruments. Rabbits, sheep and roosters are arranged in the corners. The inscriptions include the nominal value "5" and the mention "BANQUE DE FRANCE". A legal text is also present: "L'ARTICLE 139 DU CODE PENAL PUNIT DE LA RECLUSION CRIMINELLE A PERPETUITE CEUX QUI AURONT CONTREFAIT OU FALSIFIE DES BILLETS DE BANQUE AUTORISES PAR LA LOI, AINSI QUE CEUX QUI AURONT FAIT USAGE DE CES BILLETS CONTREFAITS OU FALSIFIES. CEUX QUI LES AURONT INTRODUITS EN FRANCE SERONT PUNIS DE LA MÊME PEINE." Henri Renaud is the engraver of this face, and Pierrette Lambert is the designer.
The banknote's watermark represents Pasteur's head in profile.
