The 5 Francs Pasteur banknote, dated November 4, 1966, belongs to series Q.42. This French banknote has a face value of five francs.
This banknote measures 140 millimeters in length and 75 millimeters in width. The front of the banknote features a portrait of Louis Pasteur on the left. On the right, a representation of the Pasteur Institute is visible. Plant motifs, including bunches of grapes, complete the ornamentation of this side.
The inscriptions on the front include the mention "BANQUE DE FRANCE" and the face value "CINQ FRANCS". These inscriptions are written in Latin script. The engraver responsible for this part of the banknote is Gilbert Poilliot, while the drawing is the work of Pierrette Lambert.
The back of the banknote also features Louis Pasteur, this time with his bust positioned on the right. On the left, we observe a statue of the shepherd Jupille. The background is composed of test tubes, a microscope, and various scientific instruments. Illustrations of rabbits, sheep, and roosters are present in the corners of the banknote.
The inscriptions on the back, also in Latin script, include the mention "BANQUE DE FRANCE" and the face value "5". In addition, an excerpt from Article 139 of the Penal Code is reproduced, mentioning the penalties incurred for counterfeiting or falsifying banknotes. Henri Renaud is the engraver of this side, while Pierrette Lambert created the drawing.
The watermark of this banknote represents Pasteur's head in profile.
