This French banknote with a face value of 5 francs was issued on September 1, 1966, and bears the series V.29. It measures 140 mm in length and 75 mm in width.
The front of the banknote features a portrait of Louis Pasteur on the left. On the right, a representation of the Pasteur Institute is visible. Plant motifs, including bunches of grapes, also adorn this side of the banknote. The inscriptions include the face value "5" and the mention "BANQUE DE FRANCE", repeated twice, as well as the value in words "CINQ FRANCS". The engraver of this part of the banknote is Gilbert Poilliot, while the design is the work of Pierrette Lambert.
The back of the banknote features another portrait of Louis Pasteur, this time positioned on the right. On the left, we can see a statue of the shepherd Jupille. The background is composed of test tubes, a microscope, and various scientific instruments. Illustrations of rabbits, sheep, and roosters are arranged in the corners. The legal inscription, in capital letters, recalls the penal sanctions incurred for counterfeiting or falsifying banknotes, in accordance with Article 139 of the Penal Code. Henri Renaud is the engraver of this side, and Pierrette Lambert is also the designer.
The banknote's watermark represents the head of Louis Pasteur in profile.
