The 5 Francs Pasteur type banknote, dated 01-09-1966 and bearing the series K.32, is a testament to French monetary history. Its dimensions are 140 mm in length and 75 mm in width.
On the front, the banknote features a portrait of Louis Pasteur on the left. On the right, a representation of the Pasteur Institute is visible. Plant motifs, including bunches of grapes, complete the ornamentation. The inscriptions include the face value "5" and the mention "BANQUE DE FRANCE" repeated twice, framing the value "CINQ FRANCS". The engraver of this side is Gilbert Poilliot, while the drawing is the work of Pierrette Lambert.
The reverse of the banknote features another portrait of Louis Pasteur, this time positioned on the right. On the left, we can see a statue of the shepherd Jupille. The background is composed of test tubes, a microscope and other various scientific instruments. Representations of rabbits, sheep and roosters are discreetly integrated into the corners. The inscriptions repeat the face value "5" and the mention "BANQUE DE FRANCE". In addition, an excerpt from Article 139 of the Penal Code is included, recalling the penal sanctions incurred in the event of counterfeiting or falsification of banknotes. Henri Renaud is the engraver of this side, and Pierrette Lambert is also the designer.
The watermark on this banknote represents Pasteur's head in profile.
