The 5 Francs Pasteur banknote, dated September 1, 1966, and bearing the series G.33, is a testament to French monetary history. This banknote, with a face value of 5 francs, measures 140 mm in length and 75 mm in width.
The front of the banknote features a bust of Louis Pasteur on the left, while the Pasteur Institute is depicted on the right. Plant motifs, including bunches of grapes, also adorn this side. The inscriptions include the mention "BANQUE DE FRANCE" as well as the face value "CINQ FRANCS". The engraver of this part of the banknote is Gilbert Poilliot, and the designer is Pierrette Lambert.
On the back, there is another bust of Louis Pasteur, this time positioned on the right. A statue of the shepherd Jupille appears on the left, and the background depicts test tubes, a microscope, and various scientific instruments. Representations of rabbits, sheep, and roosters are integrated into the corners. The inscriptions again include "BANQUE DE FRANCE" as well as a legal warning regarding criminal penalties for counterfeiting or falsifying banknotes. Henri Renaud is the engraver of this side, and Pierrette Lambert is also the designer.
The banknote's watermark depicts Pasteur's head in profile. This banknote commemorates the emblematic figure of Louis Pasteur and his scientific legacy.
