The 5 Francs Pasteur banknote, dated September 1, 1966, and bearing the series C.29, is a testament to French monetary history. Its dimensions are 140 millimeters in length and 75 millimeters in width.
The front of the banknote features a portrait of Louis Pasteur on the left, while the Pasteur Institute is depicted on the right. Plant motifs, notably bunches of grapes, also adorn this side. The face value, "5", as well as the words "BANQUE DE FRANCE" and "CINQ FRANCS" are present. The engraver of this side is Gilbert Poilliot, and the designer is Pierrette Lambert.
On the back, there is another portrait of Louis Pasteur, this time on the right, while a statue of the shepherd Jupille is visible on the left. The background is composed of test tubes, a microscope and various scientific instruments. Rabbits, sheep and roosters are arranged in the corners. As on the front, the face value "5" and the words "BANQUE DE FRANCE" are present. A legal inscription, relating to article 139 of the penal code concerning the counterfeiting of banknotes, is also printed. The engraver of this side is Henri Renaud, and the designer is Pierrette Lambert.
The watermark of this banknote represents the head of Louis Pasteur in profile. The inscriptions on the banknote are written in the Latin alphabet.
