The 5 Francs Ceres coin, struck in silver, was issued in 1871 by the Bordeaux mint, identified by the letter K. This commemorative coin belongs to the period of the French Third Republic.
The obverse of the coin features a representation of Ceres, the Roman goddess of harvests and agriculture, symbolizing the French Republic. Ceres is facing left and sports a pearl necklace, a double bun hairstyle, and a complex crown. This crown is composed of various plant elements, including wheat, flowers, olive branches with olives, and oak with its acorns. A tied ribbon descends along her neck and crosses her forehead, where the word "CONCOR" is inscribed. The engraver's signature, E. A. OUDINE. F., is visible under the edge of the neck, along the rim. The circular legend reads "REPUBLIQUE FRANÇAISE."
The reverse of the coin highlights the face value, "5 FRANCS", placed in the center and surrounded by a vegetal wreath. The year, "1871", is also present. The engraver responsible for this face is Joseph-François Domard.
The coin weighs 25 grams and has a diameter of 37 millimeters. The total mintage of this edition is 604,313 copies.
