This French 5 Franc banknote, commonly known as "Noir" (Black), was issued on January 1, 1872. It belongs to the U.39 series.
On the obverse, two statues on pedestals are visible, positioned on either side of the banknote. These graphic elements are printed in blue. The face value, "CINQ FRANCS", is inscribed in black in the center of the banknote. The date of issue also appears on the obverse, accompanied by a zodiac sign. The inscriptions are written in Latin.
The mentions "BANQUE de FRANCE" and "CINQ FRANCS" are present, as well as the names of the artists who participated in the creation of the banknote: "CAM. CHAZAL INV. ET DEL." and "GRAVURE DUJARDIN". Paul Dujardin is credited as engraver, while Charles Camille Chazal is identified as draftsman.
The reverse of the banknote features allegories of Science, Agriculture, and Commerce, arranged in the center. As on the obverse, the inscriptions are in Latin. Paul Dujardin is the engraver and Charles Camille Chazal is the draftsman.
This banknote does not have a watermark. Its dimensions are 125 mm in length and 80 mm in width.
