This 25-centime banknote was issued by the cities of Roubaix and Tourcoing in France, dated December 16, 1916, and part of the ninth series. This was a period when cities issued their own currency due to the economic circumstances of the time.
On the front of the banknote, one can read "Villes de Roubaix et de Tourcoing" (Cities of Roubaix and Tourcoing) at the top, followed by the mention "Bon de Monnaie" (Currency Note). The face value of "25 Centimes" is clearly indicated. A guarantee is stipulated, ensuring that the banknote is guaranteed by the cities of Roubaix and Tourcoing and redeemable at the treasury of each city from the sixth month after the conclusion of peace. The deliberation of the Roubaix municipal council of December 16, 1916, and the approval of the prefectural authority of December 28, 1916, are also mentioned, highlighting the legitimacy of the issue. The control number is 8825, and a unique serial number, N°501, is printed on each banknote. The signatures of the mayor of Roubaix and the mayor of Tourcoing are also present. A note specifies that, to be valid, the banknote must be stamped with the dry stamp of one of the two cities. The name of the printer, Louis Debode of Roubaix, is also mentioned.
The back of the banknote features a simpler composition. The face value "25" is found in the center, framed by the mentions "Ville de Roubaix" (City of Roubaix) and "Ville de Tourcoing" (City of Tourcoing). The value "0.25" is repeated in the upper and lower corners of the banknote.
The banknote was printed by Imprimerie Louis Debode, located in Roubaix, France. The writing used on the banknote is in Latin.
