This French banknote, with a face value of 25 centimes, was issued in 1916 by the Chamber of Commerce of La Roche-sur-Yon and Vendée. It is a voucher, part of Series B, designed to facilitate trade during a period of currency shortage.
On the obverse, the face value "0.25 f" is repeated twice at the top left and right. In the center, there is the mention "CHAMBRE DE COMMERCE / DE LA ROCHE S/-YON & DE LA VENDÉE", followed by the mention "Bon de VINGT-CINQ Centimes". The signatures of the President and Treasurer are affixed below.
The reverse of the banknote contains a text in cursive script specifying the conditions for exchanging the vouchers. It indicates that the 0.25 franc vouchers issued by the Chamber of Commerce of La Roche-sur-Yon and Vendée will be exchanged for banknotes of the Banque de France in multiples of twenty. It is also specified that their reimbursement is guaranteed by a deposit of equal value at the Banque de France, in the name of the Chamber of Commerce of La Roche-sur-Yon and Vendée. The date "1916" is inscribed at the bottom.
The printer of this banknote is Imprimerie Moderne De Nantes, also known as Beuchet & Vanden Brugge. This type of emergency money was common during the First World War to compensate for the lack of small change.
