Description

This 25 centime coin, minted in France in 1917, is commonly known as Lindauer, after its engraver. It is made of nickel, weighs 5.04 grams and has a diameter of 24 millimeters.

The coin is in exceptional condition, probably Mint State (MS). The obverse of the coin features a representation of the Sower, an emblematic motif of French numismatics, designed by Oscar Roty. The Sower is depicted walking and sowing against the wind, with a rising sun on the horizon. The legend "REPUBLIQUE FRANÇAISE" is inscribed in an arc above the Sower.

The reverse of the coin indicates the face value "25 c" in large letters, with the year "1917" below. The name of the engraver, Lindauer, also appears on this side. A notable feature of this coin is the year "1917" which is underlined, a particularity that may influence its value among collectors.

The absence of a mint mark suggests that the coin was produced at the main mint. The edge of the coin is smooth. The coin's composition is nickel, which gives it a bright silver color when it is in good condition. Nickel was a commonly used metal for coins of this era due to its durability and resistance to corrosion. The mintage of this coin is not specified.
