This 20-franc note is a war bond issued by the city of Saint-Quentin, France. The issuance of this note was authorized by a deliberation of the Municipal Council dated February 13, 1915. It is one of the first issues of "War Bonds".
The front of the note features several distinctive elements. The issuer is clearly identified as the "VILLE DE SAINT-QUENTIN". The designation "BON DE GUERRE" is printed in capital letters. The face value of "VINGT FRANCS" is printed in bright red.
The note bears the serial number 04065 and belongs to Series A. The redemption terms are specified on the note: "redeemable upon presentation to the Municipal Treasury six months after the signing of peace." A hexagonal cartouche located on the left of the note serves as an authentication stamp. It contains the inscriptions "SAINT-QUENTIN / B. D. G. / 1915".
The note is signed by "LE 1er ADJOINT FAISANT FONCTIONS DE MAIRE, A. Gibert". The security background of the note is light pink and is printed with very fine patterns. A decorative black border frames the note. Important inscriptions are in red and black.
This note bears witness to the historical context of the First World War and the financial measures put in place by local authorities to cope with the economic difficulties of the time.
