This 20 franc note is a war bond issued by the city of Saint-Quentin, dated March 27, 1915, and belongs to Series D. It was authorized by deliberation of the Municipal Council on July 5, 1915.
The front of the note, which constitutes its main face, mentions the issuer as the "VILLE DE SAINT-QUENTIN" and clearly indicates "BON DE GUERRE" (War Bond). The face value of "VINGT FRANCS" (Twenty Francs) is printed in bright red for immediate identification. The serial number of the note is N° 7.478, highlighting its individuality within Series D.
The redemption conditions are precisely stipulated: the note is "refundable upon presentation to the Municipal Treasury six months after the signing of peace." This clause offers a guarantee of value after the cessation of hostilities. A hexagonal authentication stamp is affixed on the left, bearing the inscription "SAINT-QUENTIN / B. D. G. / 1915", serving as the official mark of the issuing city. The handwritten signature is that of "LE 1er ADJOINT FAISANT FONCTIONS DE MAIRE, A. Gibert" (The 1st Deputy Acting as Mayor, A. Gibert), authenticating the note by a competent municipal authority.
The note is distinguished by a light pink security background, printed with very fine patterns to prevent counterfeiting. A decorative black border frames the entire note, adding an aesthetic dimension while clearly delimiting the essential information. The important inscriptions are made in red and black, creating a visual contrast that facilitates reading and highlights key information.
