Description

This coin is a 20 Franc coin, struck in 900? gold. It weighs 6.45 grams and has a diameter of 21 millimeters, with a thickness of 1.3 millimeters. The coin was struck on a press and has a round shape.

The obverse of the coin depicts the Genius of Liberty, an allegorical figure standing with large angel wings. He is depicted writing on a stele resting on a small column. A drape is visible on his left shoulder, falling along his body. The Genius stands on a cippus. Behind him, there is a vertical fasces topped by the hand of justice. To the right of the scene, a rooster is perched on one leg. The engraver's signature, Dupré, is inscribed at the bottom, in the center of the coin. The inscription "RÉPUBLIQUE FRANÇAISE" is also present, written in Latin script.

The reverse of the coin highlights the French motto: "Liberté, égalité, fraternité", which encircles a crown of oak leaves. Inside this crown is the face value of the coin, "20 FRANCS", as well as the year of issue, 1875.

This coin was issued by France during the Third Republic (1870-1940). It is classified as a common coin, produced between 1871 and 1898, with an issue in 1875 of 11,677,031 copies. The currency used is the Franc (1795-1959). Augustin Dupré is the engraver of this coin.
