Description
This 2 Franc coin, minted in France in 1989, is made of nickel. It weighs 7.5 grams and measures 26.5 millimeters in diameter. The edge of the coin is reeded.
The obverse of the coin features a representation of the Republic in the form of a sower. This female figure, draped and wearing a Phrygian cap, is depicted walking and sowing seeds facing the wind. A rising sun is visible in the background. The inscription "REPUBLIQUE FRANÇAISE" is written at the top of the coin, and the signature "D'APRÈS O.ROTY" indicates that the design is inspired by the work of Oscar Roty.
The reverse of the coin features two branches crossed at their base, one of oak and the other of olive. These branches frame the face value "2 FRANCS". The whole is surrounded by the republican motto "LIBERTE ? EGALITE ? FRATERNITE", arranged in an octagonal border.
The mintage of this coin in 1989 amounts to 94,449 copies.
