Description

This 2 Franc coin, minted in 1984, is an example from a set. It is made of nickel and weighs 7.5 grams, with a diameter of 26.5 millimeters.

The obverse of the coin features a representation of the Republic in the form of a sower. This female figure, draped and wearing a Phrygian cap, is depicted walking and sowing seeds in the wind. Her long hair floats behind her, and a rising sun is visible in the background. The inscription "REPUBLIQUE FRANÇAISE" is written in capital letters, and the signature "D'APRÈS O.ROTY" indicates that the motif is inspired by the work of Oscar Roty.

The reverse of the coin features two branches crossed at their base, one of oak and the other of olive. These branches frame the face value "2 FRANCS". The whole is surrounded by the republican motto "LIBERTE ? EGALITE ? FRATERNITE", arranged in an octagonal border.

The edge of the coin is reeded. The mintage of this coin in 1984 amounts to 50,347 copies.
