Superb 2 Francs coin struck in Paris in Year 13 of the Republican calendar (1804?1805), during the reign of Napoleon I, in the very first months of the First Empire proclaimed on 18 May 1804. This coin represents one of the first silver issues of the French Empire, struck when Napoleon had just crowned himself Emperor of the French at Notre-Dame de Paris in December 1804.
The obverse features the profile of Napoleon I with the inscription NAPOLÉON EMPEREUR and the legend RÉPUBLIQUE FRANÇAISE, bearing witness to the transition between the Consular Republic and the nascent Empire. The reverse displays the denomination 2 FRANCS · AN 13 · A within a wreath of two laurel branches tied with a ribbon. The edge is incuse-lettered.
