This two-franc note was issued by the Chamber of Commerce of Châteauroux in 1915. It is a bond, a form of emergency currency issued during periods of cash shortage.
The obverse of the note features several essential inscriptions. The date of issue, July 8, 1915, is clearly indicated, followed by a serial number, here L-5523. The mention "CHAMBRE DE COMMERCE DE CHATEAUROUX" identifies the issuer of the note. The inscription "BON DE DEUX FRANCS" specifies the face value of the note. The signatures of the Treasurer and the President of the Chamber of Commerce authenticate the note. Finally, the mention "Emission approuvée par l'Administration supérieure" indicates that the issue was authorized by the competent authorities. The name of the printer, "IMP. BADEL CHATEAUROUX", also appears on the obverse.
The reverse of the note bears the inscription "2 Ce billet est garanti par un dépôt d'égale somme... .....à partir de son jour d'émission. 2", indicating that the value of the note is covered by an equivalent deposit. This statement was intended to reassure the holders of the note as to its value and convertibility.
This note does not have a visible watermark. It was printed by Imprimerie Badel, located in Châteauroux, France.
