Description

Remarks:

This French banknote was issued by the Chamber of Commerce of Boulogne-sur-Mer. It was created following a deliberation of the chamber dated August 14, 1914. The face value of this banknote is two francs.

The banknote features several distinct inscriptions. One can read "CHAMBRE DE COMMERCE DE BOULOGNE-SUR-MER" in capital letters, indicating the issuing institution. Immediately below is the mention "Délibération de la Chambre du 14 Août 1914", specifying the legal context of the issue. The face value is clearly indicated by the inscription "DEUX FRANCS".

The banknote bears the signatures of the Treasurer and the President of the Chamber of Commerce, thus authenticating the document. The number "2" is visible, reiterating the face value. A serial number, "150918", is printed on the banknote, as well as the series identification "A1". These elements were probably used for control and monitoring purposes by the issuing institution.

This type of banknote was issued in a particular context, probably in response to local economic needs during a period of disruption, as suggested by the issue date in August 1914, at the beginning of the First World War. The issuance of banknotes by chambers of commerce was a common practice in France during this period, aimed at overcoming the lack of fiduciary currency.
