Remarks:
This French banknote was issued by the Chamber of Commerce of Boulogne-sur-Mer. It is dated August 14, 1914.
The note has a face value of two francs. The front of the note bears the inscription "CHAMBRE DE COMMERCE DE BOULOGNE-SUR-MER" at the top, followed by the mention "Délibération de la Chambre du 14 Août 1914". The face value "DEUX FRANCS" is also clearly indicated. The signatures of the Treasurer and the President of the Chamber of Commerce are present, authenticating the note. The number "2" is visible, repeating the face value. A serial number, "110476", as well as the series indication "A1" also appear on the note.
The banknotes issued by the chambers of commerce were a response to the shortage of fractional currency during the First World War. These local issues made it possible to facilitate economic transactions in the absence of sufficient liquidity provided by the Banque de France.
This two-franc note from the Chamber of Commerce of Boulogne-sur-Mer is a testimony to a period of crisis and economic adaptation in France during the world conflict.
